Shelby County, IL

Shelby County was formed in 1827 out of Fayette County. It was named in honor of Isaac Shelby, Governor of Kentucky and hero of the Revolutionary War. The county seat is Shelbyville. Shelby County has a total area of 768 square miles, of which 759 square miles is land, and 10 square miles (1.24%) is water. As of the latest census, there were 22,893 people, 9,056 households, and 6,502 families residing in the county. The population density was 30 people per square mile.
